They are everywhere. No recession for retailers who stock these symbols of honour and pride.
If there is a nation leading the race it’s definitely Tonga. Front yards, cars, supermarkets, even the dance floor are all geared up with flags.
The flag bonanza has taken a life of its own during the tournament. You can spot the few whose national teams are not playing too. All in the spirit of the festivities.
A bonus with being flagged? You know who is who. It’s a change to be greeted in your language and vice versa.
This weekend will be a huge one. The clash of the islands on Sunday when Manu Samoa take on Fiji. I look forward to seeing plenty more flags. Let’s hope retailers have stocked up for the demand.
