The Rugby World Cup 2011 is underway and the world stage of rugby has never looked so ‘mean’.
The opening ceremony not only show case New Zealand as a rugby loving nation but also the cultural diversity of Aotearoa.
No other group of people would have felt as proud as our tangata whenua. The world was here to play and sure enough they were here to see the haka. There were plenty of war chants heard throughout the masses of people. You couldn’t help stand proudly and feel patriotic at the passion echoed by the young and old.
The organisers captivated audiences around the world. From the minute the waka fleet arrived to when the challenge was given to the teams. Despite congestion, delays and crowd control mishaps the formalities of the day exceeded my expectations.
It was mean Māori mean! 🙂
